Seniors Safer at Home

Services Offered

I now offer family caregiver educational workshops and “Lunch and Learn” events throughout the community.  Topics covered in each workshop include, learning how to advocate for your loved one, recruiting family support, tapping into little-known and underutilized community resources, and maintaining yours and your loved-one’s mental and physical health to enable the most effective and efficient caregiving solution for your family as possible through every stage of the process.

I will work closely with your family and/or caregiver if you wish.  Caregiver education can alleviate stress through better communication, as well as increase confidence for both the client and caregiver.

Seniors Safer at Home continues to provide the following services:

  • One on one Companionship- During caregiver respite or regularly scheduled days/times.

  • Strengthening, endurance, flexibility and balance training to help maintain your ability to perform meaningful daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, getting in and out of bed, and meal preparation.  I utilize my skilled services of Occupational Therapy Assistant and certified Parkinson’s Disease therapist for those living with PD and other neurological diagnoses.  Strengthening prescriptions for lower body to ease sitting to standing from the toilet or other surface, upper body range of motion and strengthening to increase participation in activities that require shoulder involvement such as brushing teeth and combing/styling hair.

  • Fall Prevention and Fall Recovery Strategies- Sessions focus on "Fear of Falling" as well.

  • Energy Conservation to help alleviate hospitalizations through energy conservation techniques in those living with cardiac issues such as congestive heart failure and respiratory issues such as COPD, always assessing vitals at the beginning of the session, end of session and throughout.

  • Home Assessments- My experience with the senior population is extensive, and I will always begin your evaluation with a home assessment.  You will receive a copy of the assessment that points out quick and easy ways you can make your home safer and easier for you to function.

  • Free Aging-in-Place Home Modification Assessment Referrals- If you would like to delve deeper into the home assessment, an aging-in-place home modification assessment can be utilized to guide you into making larger changes to your home.  These include widening of doorways and addition of ramps for ease of wheelchair use, modifying bathtubs for ease of entering and exiting tub, installing grab bars and much, much more.  Please note, while you may not require these modifications at this current time, modifications are meant for one to “be prepared” in the event one does require some modifications, so that you and loved ones are not left “scrambling” in the moment.  These modifications can also prevent falls and other possible risks associated with aging in place.
